About the DSPT deadline

NHS England sets the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) submission deadline as 30 June every year: “You must however ensure that your organisation has published at least one assessment by the deadline of 30 June every year.” This applies to every organisation accessing NHS patient data or systems, including care homes, community pharmacies, GP practices, domiciliary care agencies, dental practices, and opticians. Missing the deadline is a contractual precondition failure, not a technical switch: no source states an automatic same-day cutoff, but it puts continued access to NHSmail, the NHS Spine, and the Electronic Prescription Service at risk through the commissioner relationship and the NHS Standard Contract. For care homes, this can disrupt medication management and hospital discharge communications. For pharmacies, it can put Spine-dependent NHS dispensing at risk.
